What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is the inflammation of the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that connects your heel to the ball of your foot. When this tissue is overstretched, it develops microscopic tears, leading to inflammation and pain. Classic symptoms include heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning.

How Common is It?

Believe it or not, seven out of ten people will experience plantar fasciitis at some point in their lives. So, if you’re dealing with it, you’re definitely not alone!

How to Treat Plantar Fasciitis

Here are four levels of treatment to help you get back on your feet:

1. Supportive Shoes

Choose shoes that are stable and secure. New Balance, Hoka, and Dansko Paisley are great options. Do the hand check: if the shoe flexes at the front, that’s fine, but it should be rigid from the midfoot to the heel.

2. Arch Supports (Insoles)

These help stabilize your foot and align it properly. Superfeet and Aetrex insoles are excellent choices.

3. Avoid Going Barefoot

Wear orthopedic sandals like Spenco or Aetrex flips and slides. Even compression socks can help, especially at night.

4. Be Patient

Relief can take a few weeks of consistent support. Superfeet and Aetrex insoles come with a 30-60 day guarantee, so give them a try!
